OK, now they are wearing me out. It turns out the folk music thing is a fund raiser for public television. So the guys sing two songs, then they go to Tom and Dick Smothers plugging public television. For $350, you get a collection of folk music. Except the guy plugging it keeps calling it "folk-rock" music. But there is no rock here, it really is folk music. I mean, "Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley" has no rock in it. Not any.
Just think, if House Republicans weren't trying to privatize and corporatize everything under the sun, they would be able to run the special without ever having fundraisers. There is a good article in New Yorker Magazine's last issue (i.e. not the current one) on the subject of public broadcasting.
