This day was originally established to honor George Washington, our first president and the man fondly known as the "Father Of Our Country". It was later changed to President's Day to honor Washington and Lincoln together. Heavens know, we wouldn't want to give them each their own day.

Sadly, and partly because the days are combined, the meaning has largely been lost on the populace. It is a holiday and a day of shopping at the mall.

It's a chance we miss to teach our kids our history and to remember it ourselves.
