LISTEN, DO YOU WANT TO KNOW A SECRET?

Al Mohler noted in his blog a similarity between Left Behind and The Da Vinci Code. He was referring to an editorial in Christian Century. The commonality: they both trade on the idea of a secret; secret knowledge that only the few figure out and know. That has been the basis for nearly every cult, hasn't it? David Koresh and the Branch Davidians "figured out" the end, the same claim as Tim LaHaye.

Joseph Smith said the churches were corrupt and he got the special revelation from the angel man, Moroni. Mohammed said religion was corrupt and he got the news in a cave. It goes on and on.

Let's stay with what we know and what the church has known, what the early church knew, what the Reformers knew, not what someone new dreamed up.

Even if they sold a lot of books doing it.
