This hymn, written by Augustus Toplady, deals with the effect of Christ's death for us. He wrote:
"Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee.
Let the water and the blood, from thy riven side which flowed,
be of sin the double cure. Cleanse me from its guilt and power."
Christ's death relieved us of the guilt of sin; we are forgiven. Christ's death also freed us from our slavery to sin.
His death is, therefore, a double cure.
