Alstair Begg makes a good point about all the books and talks countering Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code. Why is it that so many church members are shaken by this piece of fiction that replays heresies from centuries past and other tales?

My answer is that we do not preach and teach doctrine enough. So, we are always in the mode of reacting to things, rather than having people firm enough in their faith and understanding to know the truth and reject error.

There is a duty imposed on the preacher and teacher. Colossians 1:28 says "We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ." It does not matter if the congregation does not want to hear doctrine and prefers inspiration. It must be admonished and taught in order that we may present everyone as perfect,or complete, or mature, in Christ.

There is also a duty imposed on the individual believer and the congregation of believers. Colossians 2:8 says "See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosphy, which depnes on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ."

So, read and study. Learn and teach. Stand firm.
